Travel Program (Spring)

VHG Female 18U Development Program vs Mount Academy; Spring 2022

Spring Travel Program Details

Who Can Participate: The VHG Travel Program is typically reserved for players who take part in our Small Group Skills Training program, Jr Purple program and/or programming throughout the calendar year. However, VHG has added players from outside the program in the past and will go outside the boundaries of the program if spaces need to be filled.

Where Do Teams Go

This depends on numerous factors, including but not limited to: team skill/strength, seasonal availability, player age. However, VHG has strong ties with Andrews Hockey Growth Programs along with various Eastern Canadian Prep Schools (Mount Academy, OHA, RNS, etc). In 2021-22, The VHG Female 18U Development Program toured and played against Mount Academy (Charlottetown, PE), and its 2007 and 2008 Male teams participated in the Andrews Hockey Beast of the East Showcase (Moncton, NB). In 2024, our 2008, 2009 and 2010 teams went to the Beast of the East tournament in Moncton, the TRUE Superchallenge in Montreal, and the Can Lan Spring Showdown in Toronto.

What Comes With the Travel Program

Once the team(s) are selected (usually January-February of a given year), VHG offers a Spring Travel Package to players that includes*:

*** Practice time leading up to the off-island trip (5-10 hours*)

*** Custom jersey/hockey socks*

*** Tournament and coaches fees

*** Attire (hoodie/ball hat/shorts/leggings/t-shirts/crew necks/satchel bags*)

*** Team meal during the trip

*** Game tapes uploaded to the VHG YouTube channel

*** Player insurance*

* – – – The asterisk indicates that there may some flexibility as to what is offered in each travel program from year-to-year.

*** The above items are packaged together for a fee to VHG. All other costs (hotel in travel destination, rental vehicle, airfare, gas, personal spending money) are separate costs that the players and families are responsible for. If travelling with close friends, sharing a rental vehicle and hotel fares can help reduce cost of the trip.

Who Coaches the Teams

Late October (Early Bird) – Travel Program invites go out to V2 program members and players who travelled with us in 2024. If you fit the aforementioned criteria, you should receive an e-mail. Please contact ap@vhghockey.ca (Male and Female 2008/09/10/11/12/13), or kavy@vhghockey.ca (Male and Female 2014/15/16/17/18) if you do not receive one.

November/December – Invites go out to drop-in members and all other players who attended VHG in 2024. Player evaluation will be silent via VHG programming, minor hockey games, talking to coaches, etc. There will be no formal tryouts for the 2025 travel program

January – Rosters will be announced and a “next steps e-mail” will go out (around) January 15th. Deposit window is January 16th – 31st. This is a non-refundable deposit of $399; if something happens where a player pays the deposit and cannot go, the player will still get their VHG-themed clothes and in-house credit which can be used for future programming.

Spring – Training Camps occur for each team. Full payments are required to be made before travel happens.
